Here's some additional information that may or may not be important. My guess is that the system is trying to do some sort of a read on the applets when the control panel folder opens and it's running into an issue of some sort and when it can't complete it's mission, it chokes and dies I did try bringing up control panel in safe mode and it does work although the list of applets is substantially smaller than what appears in normal startup mode.

I don't have Java installed on this laptop. Note that after the Acronis reload of a confirmed good image I did test out my laptop and I had no trouble getting into control panel before It stops and shortly thereafter, the control panel folder simply closes without a warning or an error message. However at the top of the screen next to the up arrow where it says "Control Panel > All Control Panel items" what appears to be a green progress bar appears in that boxed area and it only progresses so far before When in normal startup mode, when I attempt to open control panel it does open the control panel folder and it appears to me that the folder contains all of the applets God mode and Control Panel both work fine on my desktop PC also but not on my laptop. For anyone having a similar problem here's the link to the driver.Īpparently, the IGFXCPL.CPL file is an INTEL Common user interface that is OK for my laptop and not required for my desktop and since control panel launched OK and the date time stamp was just over 30 days old I left well enough alone. After applying the new driver and a restart, I was able to open control panel just fine. Has an updated driver for Windows 10 that I could download. Doing another search for IDT Audio driver for Windows 10 I found that HP It's also worth noting that HP's update program never tagged it as a driver that needed to be updated either. Evidently, this driver was never upgraded by any of the Windows releasesĪnd that it has a history of causing crashes in file explorer. After my last post I did a search for the IDTNC64.CPL file and learned that this CPL file is part of an IDT Audio driver that HP and DELL use on some of their PC's and laptops.
